Summary

The purpose of the Anjana Fund is to cover funeral expenses, hospital costs, rehabilitation and counseling for the six Ama Ghar children who were lost or injured in last week's landslide which destroyed the classroom at their elementary school. As of July 8, our beautiful Anjana has died and Ajay, Bina, Ram, Rosina and Sunita are out of intensive care and have come home to Ama Ghar. We will continue to provide updates on their well-being through project reports on this site.

Challenge

Over 30 people have been killed in landslides in Nepal during the month of June, 2016. Because of unstable earth and massive rainfall, the countryside is extremely dangerous. On June 30 a retaining wall gave way and the remains of the wall as well as several tons of rock and earth crashed into two classrooms of the temporary elementary school in Thaukel, Godavari, which had been erected after last year's earthquake. 24 students in that classroom were injured or killed.

Solution

Sadly, no one can change what happened last week. But our Ama Ghar family has shown an outpouring of compassion and we have received many queries about what people can do to help. Since our budget is already stretched to the limit because we took in many new children after the earthquake, your assistance with funeral and hospital expenses will allow us to cover those expenses without taking money from our already limited budget.

Long-Term Impact

Long term, our displaced childrens' project will help the 15 children we've rescued from the earthquake to have a safe, loving and healthy environment in which to grow and will allow us to take in at least ten more. And short term, the Anjana Fund will help us to recover from our latest devastating loss. Thanks so much - we couldn't manage without your help.
